The massive Civetta mountain, unsurpassable for the variety of its panoramic views, is located in the heart of the Dolomites and offers an infinite range of excursions at every level and for every taste. The name "Dolomites" comes from Deodat Dolomieu, who studied the formation of rocky mountains characterized by a double carbonate of calcium and magnesium. The rock has colors that range from gray or yellow fading to a reddish color: this is the reason why at dawn the mountains are tinged with a pale white color and at sunset the mountains tend to seem inflamed giving rise to a phenomenon called by the Ladino "enrosadira" or "Alpenglow".

The earliest exploitations on Mount Civetta date back to the period of Roman rule and proof of this is seen through ancient inscriptions carved on rocks. Pioneers hunting chamois ascended its inaccessible paths along its steep flanks. The achievements of famous nineteenth century explorers who were mostly foreigners accompanied by local guides and experienced mountaineers on the peaks of the mountain are well known. Mount Civetta was also explored by many naturalists, surveyors, artists and visitors. In August 1925, Emil Solleder and Gustav Lettembauer, who were both Bavarian mountain climbers were the first climbers to reach the summit of the Civetta. Mount Civetta inspired not only climbers but also many writers and poets including Giosuè Carducci, who spent the 1966 summer vacation in Caprile.

The little town of Alleghe is found in the extreme northern part of the Veneto region in the narrow valley of Agordina, south of the Marmolada closed in its eastern boundaries with Mount Civetta which is separated by the valley of Zoldo Alto, while to the west it is lapped by the waters of the homonymous lake. The earliest memory date back to the Pope Lucius III papal bull, dated 1185, which confirms the territorial dominion of the bishop of Belluno on the Alleghe chapel. From this we can deduce that an Alpine Christian community existed in this area in the twelfth century. Before the formation of the lake, the main town center of Alleghe included several villages at the end of the valley and along the slopes of river Cordevole. But on January 11, 1771 a landslide caused by Monte Piz Cordevole produced the blockage of the whole area giving birth to the formation of the lake in whose water Mount Civetta is completely reflected.

Today, Mount Civetta is characterized by modern ski-lifts, an artificial snow system, ski tracks of all kinds, ski kindergarten, ski schools and the possibility to experiment with new disciplines, such as carving and snowboarding. During the summer you can enjoy many activities such as mountaineering, rock climbing, hiking, mountain biking on all passes of the Dolomite.
